Each month Electric Quilt 8 offer a free fabric download. Along with the download, they hold a challenge for all EQ8 using with a prize of the featured fabric.
The August 2024 fabric collection was Delightful Dreams b Josie Economy for QT Fabrics.
There were three inners picked; two by QT Fabrics and one random. And I'm honored to have been chosen by the QT Fabrics. Here's the link to the announcement:
And if you're a quilter, then let me just say that EQ8 is an amazing program. It has tons of fabric swatches, hundreds of blocks, and a several quilt layouts pre-programmed in the software. I love the program; and design in it every week. Go check it out!

Back to the fabric collection. QT Fabrics is donating half of the sales to an awesome charity called Quilts For Kids. You can check out their website here: https://www.quiltsforkids.org/
It's a great charity, and the store I work at part-time hosts a sew-day each month. So I thought I'd design a quilt pattern for the group to use to honor and feature this fabric line. And since I'm a lucky winner, I thought I'd share the pattern here in case anyway else wants to use it. It's a simple pattern. I hope you enjoy it!
Here's my digital design: (when I get the fabric, I'll post a pic of the quilt)
The block itself is a twist on a nine-patch. Here's a block breakdown:
All the C pieces are 2½ inch squares.
The B pieces are 4½inch squares.
Piece A is the only semi difficult one. So to make it easy, cut a strip of 2½ inch by 15½ inch rectangle. Then cut that piece diagonally in half. Piece the diagonal or bias to the side of the pieced nine-patch. And this piece is a little big, so you'll be able to square it down a bit to get a consistent sized final block.
You'll also want to make a mirror version of this block too. The only piece that is different is Piece A. Just cut the diagonal in the other direction. Easy peasy! You got this!
On to borders:
The double border is first an one inch finished then a three inch finished. You'll need to cut about 8 width-of-fabric strips for each border.
And I LOVE a stripy binding, so that's about a half yard of fabric depending on how wide you like to make your binding. I typically default to 2½ inches.
Below is a pdf of the fabric requirements of the pictured quilt; straight from EQ8.
I hope you enjoy the pattern. Please tag me if you end of making it!
It's a new month, so I'm off to download the next free fabric swatches for EQ8! Back to my quilt lab!
